RE: New and Old Skins

That more aggressive tread is probably going to cost you tread life but that is covered under the warrantee. The bigger issue may be fuel cost. I am guessing a possible 10% reduction fuel economy as well. When you get some real numbers on that it will be interesting to see them.

RE: How many EVs is GM actually selling?

I think believing EV's are not viable it because of the lack of charging stations is silly. At some point there were cars and no gas stations. The wright bros. didn't give up on the airplane because there were no airports. The infrastructure will come in time. To think there should be a charging station on every corner at this juncture is foolish. "The infrastructure will come in time" . . . Exactly. And until you can tell us precisely when that will happen, the go-to solution, as I see it, is a hybrid. Best of both worlds without the anxiety. Can you tell us precisely when the infrastructure for gasoline became adequate? I sincerely doubt it. However there is a prediction available: "By late 2024, Tesla would open 3,500 new and existing Superchargers along highway corridors to non-Tesla customers, the Biden administration said. It would also offer 4,000 slower chargers at locations like hotels and restaurants." Supercharger stations average about 10 chargers each. So about 350 next stations by the end of next year. Personally, I expect that Tesla will surpass that. They had better since vast majority of new EVs will be using the Tesla plug by 2015. Will that be adequate? For many people, yes. Could be improved in following years? Absolutely. Will it be adequate for you? That depends on your definition of adequate and where you drive.

RE: New to me tow vehicle

How much is the engine and how much is the rest of the truck? I think they kinda get priced as a package deal…lol I don't think it's a question of price. It's a question of DIFFERENCE from old to new. You guys are silly. We all need some humor in our lives.

RE: How many EVs is GM actually selling?

me either ,they just don,t fit a country life stye they,ll work just fine for some people.not for others.and I agree with that guy that said drill baby drill. have a nice day. I live out in the country and have 3 vehicles for my wife and I to use for daily driving. I am excluding the motorhome and the pickup that spends most of its time hooked up to my equipment trailer. One of the three vehicles is a Model Y and we really enjoy it. My wife likes driving it to work and never having to stop for gas. She uses the home charger that I installed and starts most every day with a full charge. My equipment trailer is used mostly within 60 miles of home. When an affordable electric vehicle that would comfortably make the round trip with the trailer becomes available I will consider replacing the PU that I am using now. I realize that this is a camping column and campers need a much longer range but I suspect that a lot of contractors are in my situation. I do use my Model Y to pull my boat but a 90 mile round trip is about the most that I can do with it. Otherwise, it actually pulls better than my pickup. Range has rarely been an issue and many charge stations have been added since I bought the Model Y so that is quickly becoming a non-issue around here. My other two vehicles are an old Ford Ranger and an old minivan. Both fill unique niches in my needs and are handy to have around but neither gets used very much. We always drive the Tesla if it meets the needs of the trip.

RE: How many EVs is GM actually selling?

Yes, it is a shame that the Bolt is being discontinued, but IMO it sends a huge message. If Americans won't embrace what is probably the lowest priced, very affordable EV, it looks like the mainstream buyer is not ready for EV's. Bring on the economical ICE's and hybrids. I think they're here to stay for quite a while. The bolt is being discontinued because they lose too much money on them. The price has to be as low as it is to compete with Teslas 38000 dollar model 3 which is a superior car in every way. Essentially they just got priced out of the market. The base price of a Bolt is $26,500 -- a far cry from Tesla's $38,000 buy-in. I think that the main problem with the Bolt is its issue with fires. They may be fixed now but it is hard to shake the stigma. A lot like the history of the Fiero. The CCS charging is also a liability.

RE: How many EVs is GM actually selling?

why arn,t they selling. I live in a town of 9k, not one charging station in this town.and my opinion there junk , gas will come back to a much lower price. in about a year. There is no charging station in my entire county but you really want a home charging station regardless. And, there are plenty of charging stations along most routes that I would want to drive. Tesla is building chargers by the thousands so the situation is rapidly improving. We really enjoy having a Tesla Model Y and will definitely consider a Cybertruck when it is available. Don't expect ICE engines or gasoline to come down in price with politics the way they are. I expect to still have several ICE engines for quite a few more years but I don't foresee any big price cuts coming.

RE: How many EVs is GM actually selling?

GM's production and "sales" of EVs, including pickup trucks, went up by a large percentage in the 3rd quarter. But they count vehicles as sold when the dealer takes them. .......... True of all vehicles. All those thousands of EV, hybrid, and ICE vehicles setting on dealer lots count as sold. I am fairly certain that Tesla does not. Heck, they own the sales outlets so the cars would still belong to Tesla anyway.

How many EVs is GM actually selling?

GM's production and "sales" of EVs, including pickup trucks, went up by a large percentage in the 3rd quarter. But they count vehicles as sold when the dealer takes them. The Bolt seems to be selling to consumers well but the Hummer, maybe not. Is it that consumers don't want them or is it the ridiculous markups the dealers are putting on the Hummer? GM 3rd qtr EV sales From autoevolution: "Despite GM reporting 1,167 GMC Hummer EVs sold in the third quarter, many still lie on dealer lots, waiting for a buyer. A quick search on CarEdge reveals that 976 brand-new GMC Hummer EVs are available at dealerships. If you filter out the vehicles still in transit, 651 units are still waiting for a buyer. If you want to find out why, just look at the prices. Many are listed at more than $150,000, sometimes even $200,000. This means the dealer markups on these units are outrageous, in some cases as high as $100,000. Of course, not all of them were reported as sold in the third quarter. CarEdge also mentions how long they've been on the market, so we used this filter. Remarkably, 849 of them have been on the market for between 7 and 97 days, which means they were likely delivered from July through September. This sounds like almost the entire third-quarter production is still waiting for a buyer."

RE: Ford to release the F150 in Australia

Well I’m like 22 years old so I still subscribe to the “if it’s too loud, you’re too old” mantra. Should be growing out of that phase of life here any day! The blue truck is not that loud though. Flowmaster 40s. It’s not fast enough to be obnoxiously loud , lol. The black one has a turbo Between the motor and the tailpipe…..hahaha. It’s loud even if you’re tone deaf where you can’t h Problem here you cannot modify the vehicles unless you have an engineering certificate. So the bulk of them eun around as stock Wish we had a law like that here in the USA. Totally agree. Safety in modifications should be a priority I live a couple of hundred yards from a highway and sometimes have to suspend outdoor conversations due to load vehicles going by. I should not have to put up with that. I was brought up to respect others. As this world gets more and more crowded we are going to have adjust our behavior to accommodate closer neighbors. The days of Danielle Boone where he moved farther into the wildness if he could here the neighbor's dog bark are long past.

RE: EV use the 30 amp 110V?

All this assumes the campground is wired up to standard. I've been in campgrounds with some pretty sketchy wiring and some serious voltage drop. True. But then again, the Tesla compensates for voltage drop and ramps down charging. An RV doesn’t. Air conditioners and battery chargers may ramp up amperage to maintain wattage on low voltage. That could go into a death spiral on weak circuits.

RE: Chevy Silverado EV

TFL Trucks, Silverado EV vs F150 gas Pretty impressive stats posted by the Chevy. Back in the '70s and '8s a lot of gas vehicles didn't get that far pulling a trailer like that but we made it work. The do need to build more EV charging stations though.

RE: refrigerator

I have a 10 year old Whirlpool fridge in mine and it still runs fine. Even on the modified sine wave inverter provided by the manufacturer. The inverter draws 22amps when the inverter is running. About the same DC draw as the camper fridge that I had in the previous camper that was only about 1/3 the size. I haven't had any troubles but with it but if you have a smaller inverter you might need to beware of the defroster or ice maker doing there things.

RE: Doris is Dead!

So glad for all of you. But please note that running 2 A/Cs on 30A can be questionable. Why? The NEC recommends a max of 80% to limit the heat or 24A for sustained operation and 2 AC's are sustained operation. And your family member issue likely contributed. But your dedication is fantastic and I admire you guys! Thanks for sharing. You can run both AC's on 30A IF all other power draws are shut down with the exception some LED lights and a radio or TV. It really helps if you have soft starters on both of the AC units. Start with the batteries fully charged so that you are only doing maintenance charging and make sure that the water heater is not running on electricity. My coach has both AC's and the water heater are on the same circuit but just about everything else is on a different circuit. I did have to put in a soft start system for one AC and plan to do the second one soon. It hasn't been a problem when on shore power. I have to watch it when on the 6kw generator. The starting load on an AC can hit 30amps all by itself. It is very short duration with the running load dropping down to about 11amps. The generator doesn't have as much in reserve as shore power does and starting both at the same time will trip its breaker without a soft start.

RE: How much anti-freeze?

Assuming the cooling system has been rinsed with plain water (distilled is best), check the owners' manual for the cooling system capacity. Add half the system capacity with coolant and top off with distilled water. I assume you don't have the manual and are looking for that capacity number. Sorry I don't have it either. Thor did not provide a manual specific to my coach. Instead I got a 20lb satchel fuel of manuals from the builders of the components going from the jacks to the TV antenna and the dash radio to the rear view camera. There is one from Cummins but it is a generic manual for the engine with no specifics for the installation. I tried to get a wiring diagram for the coach and was told that there isn't one. That makes me wonder how they built the thing. They told me that there are diagrams from about 2015 forward but that doesn't do me any good.

RE: Ford files trademark for F200 pickup.

I am getting suspicious and hopeful that the F200 will be what has been sold as the max payload version of the F150. Hopefully upgraded to 8 lug wheels and 8,800lbs GVWR. I have no data to base that on but it just makes sense to me. With the least GVWR of the F250 being 10,000lbs this could bridge the gap between the F150 and F250, as the name implies. The max payload F150 does already have a significantly sturdier frame than the regular model does so I don't think that boosting it up to 8,800lbs would be much of stretch.

RE: How much anti-freeze?

Don't know what "other vehicles" you mean, but Ford is very specific on what type anti freeze to use in their engines. I don't run Ford filters or oil in any of my vehicles either. I have never had any issues that can be attributed to coolant, oil or filters. I do make sure that the specifications are met. My question is about how many gallons of concentrate I need. I am feeling pretty confident that the five gallon bucket will be enough.

RE: How much anti-freeze?

50% full strength antifreeze & 50% distilled is what is USUALLY recommended….. At my business I always aimed for 66% full strength antifreeze & the rest distilled water….. And people always seem to forget that there is ALWAYS some of the old “stuff” left behind in the cooling system ( hoses, engine block, heater, etc ) unless it’s flushed out…. And if you do a good job of flushing then you have some leftover water in your system…. How much is left over in your system??? I do have a concentration checker and I do plan to err on the high side. I don't have chlorine in my water so it is not as corrosive as most tap water. One of the benefits of being on a well. My water heater has been in use for 23 years with no issues.

How much anti-freeze?

I have a DP on a Freightliner chassis with the Cummins 6.7l engine that is due for fresh anti-freeze. Does anyone know how much concentrate I need? I need to do the QD6000 generator as well. 5 Gal antifreeze concentrate This appears to be pretty good deal on some good antifreeze. If I have some leftover I can use it other vehicles.

RE: 2024 F150 Reveal

I have been playing with the build and price for Lariat and Platinum trim levels and was very disappointed to find that I could only get the max tow package with the 5.0 engine. In the past you had to get the 3.5L to get the highest tow ratings. Now it is forbidden. I couldn't even spec out tow mirrors or locking rear axle with the 3.5L. A tow package seems to included with the hybrid but no details about it are available. I was hoping to get a major upgrade from my 2016 Lariat but now I am not at all certain that what I want is even available.
